Refugee Garden Arts Program

  • Iskashitaa Refugee Network 3736 East 2nd Street Tucson, AZ, 85716 United States (map)

The Refugee Garden Art Program brings together UN refugees, asylum seekers, volunteers, to share space, culture, and healing! We are joined by a variety of community organizations, monthly resident art mediators/ practitioners, and garden educators. We start the morning gardening (watering, harvesting, planting, wedding and building community). Next we have resident art practitioners that lead an art project, healing music therapy or other group activity, focused on self expression, community building, and language practice!

Sala De Libros (UA World of Words). Our monthly Sala is an intergenerational exchange to practice languages, exchange cultures and build community together with a focus on literacy and books for all. Resident Art Mediator, Katrina Kerstetter from Koru Multicultural Library facilitates literacy/reading games and group art activities based on books to accommodate learners of all different levels and abilities in language-learning in a dynamic, fun and safe way. Sharing cultures matter.
