New Opportunities!

Since 2003, Iskashitaa has significantly expanded its programming across various service areas, increasing the number of refugees we serve. Throughout the week, our dedicated volunteers engage in a variety of roles, including preparation for our regular programming, administrative tasks, and production for our IskaShop. These roles support our ability to empower incoming refugees and continue to redirect food from landfills!

Production

Iskashitaa saves over 75,000 pounds of produce each year, with a portion transformed into unique products for our IskaShop! Our selection features a variety of canned and dry goods made with local ingredients, often inspired by cultural recipes shared by our refugee volunteers. On the second Tuesday of each month, we host a Food Preservation Workshop, where volunteers prepare and can various products. Between the workshops, volunteers engage in a range of production tasks every week in our office, depending on what we’ve harvested and received from our partners. Production volunteers help with washing, peeling, chopping, juicing, and packaging our products, contributing to our mission of reducing food waste and growing our ability to welcome more refugees into our network!

Administrative Tasks

You don’t need to get your hands dirty to end food waste! With multiple programs and providing individualized support for refugees and their families, our volunteers are essential in empowering our clients. In-office volunteers are involved in managing communications with incoming refugees, organizing information and resources, and providing individual support. Additionally, we are looking for volunteers to translate our resources into more languages and assist with donation management and distribution. Together, we can create a welcoming Tucson!

And more!

Outside of our regular volunteer opportunities, Iskashitaa often sells and does cooking demonstrations at events across Southern Arizona. We also have special projects needing to be done periodically throughout the year. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities OR have specific skills or passions you would like to offer, please complete the volunteer application below!
